Who maintains the content
Renal Diet and this website are published and maintained by Phi Truong Nguyen (Phi Truong Nguyen, an individual seller). Food pages and ranking tables are generated from data by code, not written by hand. Explanatory guides are written by the publisher with AI assistance and checked against the cited sources and the data.
Where the numbers come from
Every nutrient value comes from USDA FoodData Central (Foundation Foods 2026-04-30 and SR Legacy 2018-04), which is public domain (CC0 1.0). The app database holds 7,332 foods and this website has a page for 155 common foods. Each food page links to the USDA record by FDC id. The sources page lists the releases, file checksums and the exact statements we use from named guidelines such as the National Kidney Foundation and KDOQI. A threshold appears only when a named source publishes it, and it is labeled with that source. Where a source gives no number, we show none.
The database file's SHA-256 is cd3a144f8bcb... and the build of this website stops if it does not match the recorded checksum.
How rounding works
USDA publishes nutrients per 100 g. A serving is the value per 100 g multiplied by the serving's grams and divided by 100. Display rounding is half-up: whole numbers for milligrams and kilocalories, one decimal for grams of protein. Rounding is for display only. Rankings and sort order use unrounded values, and the NKF 200 mg per serving comparison uses the rounded potassium number shown on the page, so a label always matches the number beside it.
Automated checks
Before every release, automated checks recompute each displayed nutrient number from the USDA dataset and compare it with the page, and verify source links, page metadata and internal links. These checks test the website's implementation. They do not show that a food is appropriate for a particular person.
What we do not claim
- This website is not medical advice and has not been reviewed by a clinician. If a page ever says it was reviewed, it will name the reviewer and the date. No page does today.
- We do not label any food safe, unsafe, good or bad. Your limits come from your nephrologist or dietitian.
- Values are generic USDA reference values. Brands, recipes, cooking and phosphorus additives can change them; check the product label.
Corrections
If a value or statement looks wrong, email support@renaldiet.app with the page address, the FDC id and what you think is different. Please do not send personal health information. We compare the value with the USDA record and with the cited statement, and if we find an error we correct the page and rebuild the site. More on the support page.
Update cadence
There is no fixed publishing schedule. Food values change only when we rebuild from a newer USDA release; the releases in use are listed above and on the sources page. Explanatory copy carries the date of its last editorial update, currently October 12, 2026, and guide pages show their publication date.
