How to read this list

Values are USDA per 100 g figures scaled to the serving shown (per 100 g x grams / 100), rounded for display. The tables do not apply any threshold. If you want the National Kidney Foundation's 200 mg potassium line, use the low potassium page; for ranking by phosphorus see the low phosphorus page. Sources and checksums are on the sources page.

Frequently asked questions

How is this list organized?

By food group, then alphabetically. Each group is a table with potassium, phosphorus, sodium and protein for one USDA standard serving. For rankings across all foods see the low potassium and low phosphorus pages.

Does being on this list mean a food is right for me?

No. The list shows reference values, not recommendations. Your limits for each nutrient are set by your nephrologist or dietitian, and processed foods and phosphorus additives may differ from the USDA reference values shown.

Why do serving sizes differ between rows?

Each row uses the USDA household portion for that food, for example 1 slice, 1/2 cup or 3 oz, with the grams shown. Numbers are only comparable when servings are, so every row shows its serving and links to a page with the full USDA portion list.

Where do the values come from?

USDA FoodData Central (Foundation Foods 2026-04-30 and SR Legacy 2018-04). Each row has its FDC id linking to the USDA record.

Track your own numbers against your own limits

Renal Diet adds up potassium, phosphorus, sodium, protein and fluid from an offline USDA food database, with the source on every value. No account, no scanner. You enter the limits your care team gave you, and "Can I eat this?" shows a traffic light against what is left today. A PDF report is there for your dietitian. Free to start; some features may need an optional premium subscription.
